Krome, the King of the Crow Blooded has been in a war with the Bane brothers Moore Bane (HOW IT’S MEANT TO BE), Auxor (HOW IT’S SUPPOSED TO BE) and Brick (HOW IT HAS TO BE) for years. They're triplets who were taught to fear their lineage, after their parents deaths, they make a path to let their legacy die with them. But they all found their mates and became stronger than him and his people. They also had one of his own living with them, a little crow named Tucker.He went up against them and lost more than he expected. Now he was stuck between being a man and a Crow yet he was neither. And his people were trying to find a way to fix him. In they minds they thought they found the solution so they kidnapped a woman with a secret.Cora Peterson, a human woman working at an avian medical center as a surgeon. She was drawn to birds especially Crows because of her history with them. She found out about Crow shifters existence but she didn't had time to react cause the man in front of her was dying. And she needed to do what was necessary to save his life.Despite what his people did to her, she found herself liking Krome's company. There was more to him than beneath the eyes and vice versa. She really saw the man underneath the tough exterior. He was a softie, he just wanted what was best for the Crow Blooded.I liked how Bron came to like and respect Cora. The things he did for his King went beyond his role as the third. He fought for him as a family. To have Krome reach out to those he'd once considered as his enemies was a game changer.Seeing the Banes again a a delightful treat. Gwen and Cora's interaction was beautifully done. Loved all the twists and turns.HOW IT IS is the fourth novella in T. S. Joyce's OATH OF BANE series. It was fast-paced, heartwarming, alluring and a breathtaking ride. T. S. Joyce had me hooked for the first sentence until the last one. Another masterpiece. I can’t wait for what comes next. 5🌟🌟🌟🌟 After reading and loving Moore’s story in T.S Joyce’s “Oath of Bane” series I didn’t think it could get much better, but man-on-man was I wrong! Where the bear brothers are angst filled and struggling the Crow Blooded are vengeful and violent. Where Aux, Brick, and Moore are emotionally lost and fighting to find the right path, the Crows are angry and defiantly trying to force the prophecy into fruition by any means necessary. And where, at first glance, you might think this is a classic battle between right and wrong, good and evil, old world versus modern society, you would be just plain wrong as this story is so much more…As I mentioned in my earlier reviews of this series, Joyce has been a much, much needed bright spot for me this year. The last fourteen months have been nothing short of a never ending emotional rollercoaster, and while things appear to be slowly returning to something akin to “normal” (although I fear nothing will ever be truly normal again), the Oath of Bane series has thankfully given me a proper punch in the soul and given me a much needed cerebral diversion to the daily bombardment of plague world this, and political crap world that. Additionally, The Oath of Bane is honestly one of the best shifter sagas I have read over the last three years and I cannot wait for it to continue! Each one has been better than the last and this forth installment of the series is certainly no exception as Krome’s story is the most eye opening, pivotal, suspenseful, and heartbreaking tale yet!Here with, “How It Is” Joyce once again plunges you back deep into the prophecy to end the bear shifters line with a much needed glimpse at the other side of this extraordinary equation, the crow shifters. Beginning immediately where Moore’s story ended, with Krome seriously injured and possibly dying, we are pushed unwillingly into the plots of those around Krome who devise a plan to either save or exterminate their king and fulfill the larger mission of ending the bears. It is a sinister plan that sees Krome’s second in command defy the very rules of their existence and steal a human, Cora, an aviary surgeon, who they force to help Krome. From this action Joyce takes us step by painful step through the journey of why the crows hate the bears so viscerally, how their entire state of being has been molded to exist only for the fulfillment of the pact to end the bears, and the violent consequences when some start to question blindly following the edicts of generations before them without truly understanding why or acknowledging that the sins of the parents, grandparents, and generations before them, are not and should not be the sins of the children.It is an extraordinary tale, one that will have you contemplating your own family biases and questioning why you believe them to be so. It is a violently poignant tale that will tear at your soul and make your heart ache deeply for Krome and the bear brothers. And just like the first three, Krome and Cora’s story, from their forced beginning, through their shared journey of discover, will leave you begging for more. Theirs is an explosive connection, and through this connection spawns even more powerful threads of understanding, all weaving themselves into a story world that unapologetically delves into the binds of generational actions, how the prejudices of our elders poison the generations yet to be born, and how these lies ultimately taint the adults the children after them become, as well as, the actions and connections needed to break the cycle of pain and narrow-mindedness. And how true, unadulterated love truly can conquer all.
