I do not get all the rave reviews on this set so I'm glad I only paid $0.99 for it!! I've only read 2 so far & the 1st one was very confusing to me. The main character is in TX & has a car accident. Is she dead or she isn't? It seems to go back & forth. It's not till the 2nd book I knew for sure. She ends up in a town she thinks is still in TX, is it? Its residents are largely mythological figures who seem to appear human & converse easily w/ her but are there some who are human, like the fella she is attracted to? Are all of them dead? They tell her she's a witch, which is totally beyond her comprehension, but she doesn't ask questions nor does anyone explain much of anything to her--until the 2nd book. Right away she is at a diner when a murder occurs so how can all these 'people' be dead? She takes it upon herself to go around town questioning residents to solve the crime even tho she is new in town, they have law enforcement, & she has no criminal investigation history or training. She owned a restaurant yet they all are fine with talking to her & law enforcement is fine with her doing that & accepts her conclusions in solving the crime, which they did not do.She stays w/ a woman I assume is dead, who tells her she is a medium & that they are the only 2 people in the world who can see ghosts. That's not true, most mediums can see them. But why can she see them if most of the residents cannot & how can they see her since she is dead & therefore a ghost?A lot of the residents mention being from Avalon. Is that Avalon as in King Arthur? So far that connection hasn't been made.I don't know, I just feel like overall the premise of these stories is a mess but the writing style is cute & enjoyable. I have gone from thinking one up to nearly 3 stars now so maybe they will continue to improve & make more sense. I am going to try the 3rd one. I may not read all of them, especially if they become too repetitious, but I will update my review. The Avalon Cafe is also a witch murder mystery series & I totally enjoyed that, which is one reason I tried this. So far this isn't even close. Love the books. I had already read 1-3. 4-6 were just as good. I get a kick out of the Austin references since I lived there 32 years (now just down the road in Kyle). The characters are wonderful. From is a hoot! If you like these, you will also like the books that take place in Eastwind when Ruby was younger.
